everyone aspires to feel focused and sharp, whilst having clear thoughts – as for the term ‘mental clarity’.
our minds tend to work the best when they are clear from distractions, confusion and mind fogginess.
so lets learn strategies that can to help you improve your mental clarity, from my experience of achieving this state of mind.
what is mental clarity
when your mind is in a state of being fully engaged and active, whilst having a clear mindset – you’re achieving mental clarity.
mental clarity is extremely important to help us achieve
- productivity during the day,
- be able to prioritise your time,
- make clearer decisions so you’re able to get things done on time,
- be able to work through most problems,
- help find your passions and purpose.
i resonated deeply to this topic as many of the articles on this website are to do with mental improvement, growth and wellbeing.
and in this case clarity aswell.
to have clarity means you hold the quality of being a clear, transparent and an easy to understand person.
so adding the ‘mental’ in front of clarity, simply means you’re able to hold the quality of ‘clarity’ that people tend to see, hear or understand, in your mental home (your mind).
do you want to be able to process and understand information efficiently and effectively?

lets quickly discuss what may be getting in the way of you achieving this state of mind.
what causes lack of mental clarity
i want to put out that it is completelyyyy normal to experience short-term stress, mind fog, struggling to concentrate or just down days,
– i mean literally look at the world we live in, there is chaos and problems left right and centre at this point.
but being able to find effective ways to manage these longer-term stresses is so so essential.
it helps you maintain a healthy and happy mentality, which can then help you achieve the state of mind called mental clarity.
a few causes include:
- diet – poor nutrition
- lack of sleep
- not having awareness of your emotions
- no exercise
- excess time spent on phones, laptops, screens
- chronic stress
- your environment
- hormonal or age related changes
try to focus on the things you have control of at first, such as sleep, screen time, exercise and your diet.
lets see what the benefits of mental clarity are and why we want to achieve this state of mind.

you have the ability to change your life, if you’re willing to put in the long and hard work with changing your mindset.
here are the best strategies to practise to help you achieve mental clarity.
1. connection with nature
- this is something that will absolutely change your life when it comes to achieving mental clarity.
- spending time in nature can help you clear your mind, help deal with stress, boost your wellbeing, enhance your mood and soooo much more.
- honestly, i think nature has been one of the biggest influences when it comes to having clarity in my life
- but when you go into nature, try not to listen to music or be on your phone. take in the present moment and absorb all that is around you.
- i go on a nature walk every day and it has transformed my life.
- i understand peoples lives are different, but i used to wake up at 5am, just to make sure i could get a walk in with nature before i started work.
- try to fit it into your busy life because the benefits are worth it.
2. practice mindfulness
- journaling
- mindfulness observation
- simply just being present and not making excuses for the feelings in your body – pay attention and try to find solutions
- mindful breathing
- practising self-acceptance and self compassion
- practising gratitude
- meditation
3. practice journaling
- if journaling gets a subheading of its own even though it was just mentioned, i think you should recognise the importance journaling has.
- write down absolutely everything and anything in your mind, as this can help clear your mind whilst organising your thoughts.
- here is an in depth article teaching you how to begin journaling and the benefits it has.
4. practice gratitude and affirmations
- this goes with mindfulness and journaling, but honestly making it a habit to regularly reflect on what you are grateful is so beneficial.
- it helps you shift your mindset to a more positive and appreciative approach, whilst also helping reduce any stress.
- implementing positive affirmations into your daily routine can help promote a more focused and clearer mindset.
- i have an entire article on 29 affirmations for mental clarity
- not to mention boost your self-esteem and confidence!
5. set clear and achievable goals
- this is a personal preference, but i like to write everything out – my goals, to-do-lists, achievements, future life.
- but to give your mind a clear focus throughout the day, i suggest writing specific and achievable goals each day.
- i do yearly goals, then break them into quarterly goals, break those into monthly goals, break that into weekly goals, then into daily goals.
6. establish a routine
- i found creating a daily schedule helped immensely in achieving mental clarity and creating consistency.
- my daily schedule is a rough estimate, as i don’t want to have unnecessary pressure of completing something in a certain amount of time, but that being said, i still make sure i complete my goals.
- it includes my work (time to accomplish my goals that day), my breaks (food, walks and exercise), me time and friend time.
7. organise your spaces
- create a tidy environment by organising your spaces.
- clutter in your physical spaces can influence clutter in your mind.
- your room, home, office, study, car – anywhere you spend time in
8. limit your distractions
- identify your main distractions and remove yourself from them when you need to be focused on a task.
- phone notifications, music, people, environments – anything that distracts you
9. make sure you’re taking breaks
- you need to figure out what system works best for you as everyone is different.
- figure out how you can achieve your optimal potential and implement short breaks so you can refresh your mind in between tasks.
- are you a morning person, or a night owl?
- how long can you last before you get distracted after a certain amount of time focussing on one thing?
10. engage in creative/expressive activities
- i found hobbies that stimulate your mind, or activities that are expressive, can help you achieve mental clarity.
- painting, writing, dancing, playing music, drawing, poem, acting – anything you enjoy
11. get your beauty sleep
- please prioritise getting enough quality sleep at night.
- sleep allows your mind to recharge and rest, so you can wake up and be restored and focused.
12. hydration and nourishment
- make sure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day and eating healthy, balanced meals.
- i’m not just saying it for the fun of it, staying hydrated and eating wholefood meals actually support your optimal brain function.
13. regular exercise
- physical activity can help enhance your cognitive function, boost your mood and overall wellbeing.
- exercise however you enjoy – hikes, gym, dancing, swimming, cycling, sport, running, ect
14. reduce your multitasking
- you may think you’re getting more done by multitasking, but it can actually decrease your productivity.
- begin to focus on one task at a time, this increases your concentration and decreases distractions and making errors.
- watching tv or listening to music whilst you work, or bouncing between 2 work tasks at the same time
15. please seek professional help if needed
if your mental fog is persistent, taking a toll on your wellbeing, or you find you are struggling,
i highly advise you to seek professional help from a trained mental health or health professional – a psychologist, psychiatrist, therapist or any trained professional of that sorts.
