a thank you poem for support – to my psychologist

*trigger and content warning* please be advised this poem contains discussion of assault and trauma. please read at your own discretion.

i never liked to talk,

i preferred to keep it in.

but when i learnt it’s safe,

my life started to begin

one where i can trust,

one that didn’t hold fear.

a world where i can talk,

my story, loud and clear.

i like to think i helped,

but when i self reflect.

i’m grateful i got help,

i learnt to reconnect.

reconnect with others,

not just on my own.

open up and be willing,

beautiful friendships were formed.

i have someone to thank,

for their patience, work and time.

no longer trapped within,

from someone else’s crime.

thankyou for your help,

and all the work you do.

your impact lasts a lifetime,

i can thank YOU for how much i grew.

MAO

don’t give trauma the power to control you, you deserve to live how you want. take control of your trauma.
