‘i want to look like you, but you want to look like me’ poem

i don’t admit it to myself, but my worst trait is comparing,

so please don’t feel insecure if you catch me staring.

i pick out the qualities you hold that i lack,

then come up with a new routine to keep me on track.

i admire the outfits you wear with pride,

cause the last time i wore something like that, i cried.

i know i’m growing and that’s why my body isn’t the same,

i hold so much self love, yet i still feel shame.

but little did i know, when you catch me staring,

we have a feeling that we’re sharing.

i want to look like you, but you want to look like me.

so we shouldn’t be so hard on ourselves, because you can’t see yourself how i see.

if you struggle with negatively comparing yourself i have an in-depth article i wrote here, how to stop comparing yourself.

turn your negative comparisons of yourself to other people into positive inspiration to continue working on yourself.

you are amazing.

don’t give trauma the power to control you, you deserve to live how you want. take control of your trauma.
